Context

To bring independence to eduK’s internal teams and ease the development team’s workload for product updates, it was necessary to develop eduK’s admin panel.

To make the development of this admin scalable, it was necessary to design a Design System that would maintain visual and usability consistency while increasing product development productivity.

Understanding the Problem

🩼 What is the business pain?

Increase the teams’ independence at eduK.

Increase the teams’ independence at eduK.

🎯 How can we solve this pain?

  • Creating an internal tool where teams can work independently without needing to involve the development team to make product updates.

  • Working on an experience focused on internal collaborators, enabling them to handle their demands without much effort.

  • Designing a Design System that will ensure the admin’s scalability, maintain visual consistency and usability guidelines, and facilitate the development of future features.

Defining the process

1 — Discover

  • Understand the problem and its nuances.

  • Gather data.

2 — Define

  • Define the problem itself. At this stage, we bring together everything we discovered and define what needs to be done.

3 — Prototype

  • Create the components that will make up the Design System based on data and needs.

  • Build component variables, rule sets, and design guidelines.

4 — Deliver

  • Deliver the final components with the defined rules and guidelines.

  • Apply them to the initial screens developed for the admin.

  • Validate component development

Components

Why develop a Design System for building internal tools?

Project scalability

Building a Design System creates a system that is easy to scale, as components are reused by the design and development teams, bringing agility to the process of building new product features.

Shorter learning curve

A Design System creates a shorter learning curve for internal collaborators, since all the tool’s features follow the same design and usability guidelines.

Defensive design

Creating business rules reduces the risk of unwanted actions by the user operating the tool.

Collaboration

The process of designing a Design System involves more than the design team: it also includes the product and development teams. This collaborative work improves teamwork.
